Life Today
One shower a week • For over five years, Mariet Dingemans has captured the daily life of De Brouwketel, a community where adults, children, and various animals live sustainably. She chronicles this unique way of life, which offers hope amid global challenges. Growing their own food and minimising resource use, they embrace a simple, self-sufficient lifestyle. Her book One Shower a Week delves deeply into this inspiring community and its values.
There's nothing, yet so much to see
Returning to the ancestral homeland • After many years of travelling abroad, Italian photographer Mauro Curti returned to his homeland, Piemonte, a region in northern Italy near the Alps. He captured his emotional reaction to the landscape and people in his project Riturné (‘Come Back’ in Piedmontese). His work attempts to maintain and preserve a living connection with his past while exploring the relationship between man and territory, his personal conflicts, and the notions of family and belonging. A personal connection to the daily life of Piemonte became his photographic quest.

The working-class backbone of America • American photographer Richard Sharum embarked on a journey through the central spine of America, encompassing the states of North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. His photographs of the flyover country, compiled in his book Spina Americana, show the often overlooked and ignored people who inhabit these regions, including labourers, farmers, and cowboys from different ethnic minorities. Sharum wants to create hope and empathy in times of unprecedented division in the United States.

TV- spells • I watched lots of toxic-flavoured TV during my early teens. I was pretty much raised on heavily fuchsia chick flicks from the ’90s. America’s Next Top Model, Legally Blonde, and Bratz fed my fragile, body-dysmorphic brain and led me to a place I wish I had never visited for long.
What is Art Photography • At its core, art photography is the creation of images with the intention of expressing emotions, ideas, or narratives—acting as a powerful communication tool. Art photography is about conveying emotions, invoking discussions, and challenging perceptions. Where traditional photography often aims to document reality or convey factual information, art photography allows photographers to craft images that communicate abstract concepts or symbolic meaning.

Seeking and finding her father • As a 7-year-old child, Diana Markosian heard her mother say they were leaving their house in Moscow. They left for Los Angeles and arrived the following day. She would never see her father, from whom her mother was divorced, back again. After years of searching, she found him back in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. The highly personal book Father consists of images of her father, old family photos from Moscow, letters from her father to embassies and even President Bill Clinton, and Diana’s brief personal texts. “You ask me about my childhood. All those years without you. Where do I start?”
