Sienna Barlow loves nothing more than riding around New Kansas on her mega-dog, Gus. He's one of the many massive pooches giving company—and protection—to the planet's human settlers. In fact, Sienna can't connect with other kids the way she connects with Gus. So when a visiting official threatens to shut down the mega-dog program, Sienna sneaks off with her best friend.
Kevin Rolf is new to New Kansas, and he can't figure out why Sienna won't talk to him. After he spots her slipping into a scout ship, he decides to follow along. Sienna, Gus, and Kevin soon crash land on a strange part of the planet. On the way home, they'll discover a danger to every human in their community—and launch a wild plan to save New Kansas.
