PreS-K-A star makes its way across the winter sky, inspiring bears, foxes, geese, wolves, and other animals in the evergreen forest below to follow. Each stanza is bracketed by the warm and comforting phrases, "You are the light" and "Little Star, we love you." This reverent tone extends into the pleasingly mellow flat-style illustrations, with cool landscapes against hazy blue and purple skies. Though the star's ultimate landing place atop a pine tree subtly suggests Christmas iconography, the overall work avoids restricting itself to a particular tradition and roots its appeal in broad, tender emotion. VERDICT A lovely work of rhyming verse, and a recommended first purchase.
